Autumn Celebration—Diamond Golf Competition at Hakone Sengokuhara
Meeting greenkeeper Tomomi Sakiyama
Tomomi Sakiyama, a greenkeeper who rarely meets with guests, introduced his work and his passion for golf course management to the participants. Using a screen and whiteboard, he talked about pesticides used for green keeping, gave point-by-point advice on course strategy for the next day's competition, and introduced some overseas golf courses.
Dinner
Ice sculptures in the shape of golfers greeted guests as they opened the doors of the main dining room. Fumihiko Sano, Executive Chef for the Hakone area, prepared a special course for this event to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the hotel, and explained each dish of his special menu. Small gasps were heard when the host informed the guests that they would be matched in the same groups as thier table for the next day's competition. The guests enjoyed chatting with each other over food and drinks.
Golf competition
The day started with light rain, but after the half-time break, the rain stopped and the sun started shining. On the day of play, the greens were set, with cups positioned the same as on the final day of the Cat® Ladies Golf Tournament 2024.
Award ceremony
Prizes included golf course tickets and hotel room vouchers in the Izu/Hakone area, as well as original golf course merchandise from Seibu Prince Hotels & Resorts. The guests seemed to enjoy both the previous night’s dinner and the golf competition, as well as all the social interactions. At the end of the event, participants were gifted balls made from Japanese cypress timber felled at the Daihakone Country Club and chocolates in the shape of golf balls as participation prizes, making it a truly golf-filled day and night.
