EVENT REPORT
A Journey Where Three Hands Align—Stars of Shizukuishi
Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi
An original tour of Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi, a premier destination for mechanical watchmaking, was offered exclusively to Diamond Members. After a presentation on the company's history and the art of watchmaking, guests were permitted to touch the parts and materials and watch through glass windows as artisans assembled the watches, accompanied by commentary. At this event, participants were given the opportunity to see the artisans’ techniques up close with demonstration and commentary, as well as the opportunity to try crafting star decorations: a fundamental adornment for watch movements. Participants then took home a special souvenir: a brass part they had engraved with their own design.
Special Dinner at Austria House, Shizukuishi Prince Hotel
Donated by the World Alpine World Ski Austrian team to commemorate the Championship held at Shizukuishi ski resorts in 1993, this spacious log cabin was rented out to serve, a special "locally produced and consumed" menu featuring ingredients unique to Shizukuishi. In addition, Masayuki Nishidate, the master brewer of the Kikunotsukasa Sake Brewery, which was the venue for the following day’s tour, served three selected brands of sake accompanied by commentary.
Shizukuishi Galaxy Ropeway
After dinner, guests took the ropeway for a walk to appreciate the night sky and reach for the stars. The clear night air was cold at the top of the mountain, but guests enjoyed viewing the night sky, changing from moment to moment, from reclining seats accompanied by commentary from a star guide.
Kikunotsukasa Sake Brewery
At the oldest sake brewery in Iwate Prefecture, founded in 1772, guests were guided by the master brewer through the sake brewing process. After a hands-on tour that included tasting steamed rice and stirring a fermenting tank, the participants enjoyed sake tasting in the tasting room. They were also able to experience hand labeling bottles of popular sake varieties as well as special sake not intended for sale, attaching their choice of photo or an original image of the event, which they took home.
