  Blossom Links Craft x Tech Tohoku Project 南部鉄器 Nambu Tekki × Michael Young

  同一の南部鉄器モジュールを計算に基づき組み合わせた、テーブル。この構造システムは、デザイナー自身の研究を見返すことから始まり、数学的な制約の中で考案されました。表面には伝統的な桜模様と幾何学模様が施されており、3Dプリンターを使用して実現しました。

  Combining identical iron modules through precise calculations creates tables of various sizes. Its structural system was developed when the designer revisited modularity studies he conducted decades ago, approaching them with fresh eyes and exploring the functional structure within mathematical limitations. The modules are adorned with traditional cherry blossom and unique geometric patterns, realized with 3D printing technology.

  Artisan - Kei Sato / Saaki Cast Iron Foundry, 3rd generation. Traditional craftsman. He creates original items upon request from restaurants, designers, and brands, handling all tasks from design to technical aspects within the workshop.

  秋田県の伝統工芸・川連漆器で仕上げた、日本の弓をモチーフとするフロアライト。鎌倉時代から続く川連漆器の原点は、弓に漆を施していた歴史にあります。漆黒や朱に宿る深みある艶には、工芸素材ならではの奥行きが漂い、ミニマルなフォルムは、現代の生活空間にも馴染みます。

  A floor lamp inspired by the Japanese bow, finished in traditional Kawatsura lacquerware from Akita Prefecture. The origins of Kawatsura lacquerware, which has continued since the Kamakura period, lie in the history of applying lacquer to local armour, including bows. The deep lustre inherent in jet black and vermilion possesses a depth unique to Japanese craft materials, while its minimalist, supple form blends naturally into contemporary living spaces.

  秋田県の伝統工芸・川連漆器で仕上げたデスクランプ。漆の食器に由来する平たい皿の形状をモチーフにし、それが中空に浮かぶ姿を蓮の葉になぞらえてデザインしています。現代的な住空間に違和感なく溶け込むモダンさを備えつつ、天然漆ならではの確かな存在感を感じさせます。

  A desk lamp finished in traditional Kawatsura lacquerware from Akita Prefecture. Its design draws inspiration from the flat dish shape originating in lacquered tableware, evoking the image of a lotus leaf as it appears to float in mid-air. It possesses a modernity that seamlessly integrates into contemporary living spaces, while conveying the substantial weight and presence unique to natural lacquer.

  神の目のように、地球から100億光年という最果ての宇宙まで徐々に俯瞰していくことで、自身と宇宙の境界を曖昧にさせ、「あなたはどこにいるのか」という問いを鑑賞者に投げかける。ガラスの可能性を最大限に拡大させて生まれた渾身の作品です。

  Adopting an omniscient perspective, this piece gradually expands its gaze from earth to the furthest reaches of the cosmos, ten billion light-years away. By blurring the boundary between the self and the universe, it poses a profound question to the viewer: *Where are you?* This magnum opus pushes the boundless potential of glass to its absolute limits.

  ノグチは、この世界の森羅万象に宿る超自然的かつ神秘的な気配を、自在に変容するガラスという素材を通して表現。宇宙、富士山、瀧、葛飾北斎の描いた浪などをモチーフに扱いながら、人智を超えた世界の広がりを俯瞰的な視点から捉えています。透明なガラスの内部に壮大な景色やエネルギーを凝縮することで、有限の物質のなかに無限の宇宙観や精神性を立ち上げ、鑑賞者に自然や宇宙の根源的なつながりを想起させています。2018年第4回アジアコスモポリタン賞受賞。

  Noguchi expresses the supernatural and mysterious presence that resides in all things in the universe through the medium of glass, a material capable of infinite transformation. Drawing on motifs such as the cosmos, Mount Fuji, waterfalls, and the waves depicted by Katsushika Hokusai, she captures the vastness of a world beyond human understanding from a panoramic perspective. By condensing grand landscapes and energies within transparent glass, she evokes an infinite cosmic vision and spirituality within a finite material, prompting viewers to recall the fundamental interconnectedness of nature and the universe.

  "モノでありながら空洞である。"
  やきもののそういうところが面白いと思っている。あらゆるモノやコトといった存在は、内と外を含み、また内と外のみならず、相反する複数の要素を綜合しながら成りたっていて、やきものはそれらを視覚的に体現している様に感じる。

  A physical presence, yet intrinsically a void.-It is this profound paradox that draws me to the medium of ceramics. Every entity and phenomenon in our world encompasses both an interior and an exterior. They are formed not merely through this binary, but through the continuous synthesis of multiple, opposing elements. Oku believes that ceramics serve as a visual manifestation of this complex duality. Amidst these philosophical inquiries, the tanuki (Japanese raccoon dog) emerges periodically as a recurring motif, weaving traditional narrative into this exploration of existence.

  奥直子が目指すのは、人の心を動かす「エンターテイメント」としてのやきものです。その表現の鍵となるのが、やきものの内側にある「空洞」です。奥にとって「空洞」は、単なる器の内側ではありません。それは、曖昧さや余白を大切にしてきた東洋の「間」の感覚にもつながっています。内と外、モノと空間、アートとクラフト。そうした境界を行き来しながら、見る人によって異なる物語が生まれ、思わず心が動く瞬間を通して、奥はやきものの新しい楽しみ方と可能性をひらいています。

  Oku aims to create ceramics as “entertainment”—works that move people. At the heart of this approach is the hollow space within ceramics. For Oku, the hollow is more than simply the inside of a vessel. It is also connected to the Eastern sense of ma, which values ambiguity and open space. Moving between inside and outside, object and space, art and craft, her works leave room for each viewer to discover a different story. Through moments that stir the emotions, Oku opens up new ways of experiencing ceramics and the possibilities they offer.
