MIYAJIMA MISEN

DAISHO-IN

Daisho-in, the head temple of the Omuro school of the Shingon Sect of Buddhism, is the oldest temple on Miyajima. A 20-minute walk from Miyajima Pier, with views of the town on the opposite bank, it features a serene environment and beautiful scenery.

Hotel KIKUNOYA

Foot Bath, Arbor

Yamadaya

Yamadaya was established on Miyajima in 1932 as the maker of Momiji Manju cakes. Enjoy a hands-on experience, making Momiji Manju with a handheld griddle, and eat what you made piping-hot.

MIYAJIMA Ropeway

Ropeway that connects Momijidani Park and Shishiiwa Station. The views of the many beautiful islands of the Seto Inland Sea from the observatory at the terminus, Shishiiwa Station, rivals those from the summit of Mount Misen.

380 species, mainly creatures from the Seto Iuland Sea, are exhibited. Learn about the rich ecosystems of the Seto Inland Sea, including the oyster raft observation tank, and the cute figure of the black finless porpoise, the Seto Inland Sea's only cetacean species.

Miyajima Momiji-no-ga

Miyajima's only authentic kimono experience, where you can enjoy sightseeing around Miyajima dressed in Tsubo-shozoku, the traditional costume of princesses from 1,000 years ago, or kimono. Enjoy a stroll dressed in beautiful costumes that look striking against the beautiful scenery. This is a popular activity for women who want a unique experience that only Miyajima can offer.

Kashidokoro Kimura

Momiji Manju, with a chiffon cake-like finish, made with fresh eggs, are soft and moist even when eaten cold. The most recommended varieties are Apple, which contains pieces of apple that have been cooked in wine, and Cheese, made with an original blend of cheeses. Enjoy Momiji Manju made in a Western cake style.

Miyajima Kitaoji Rosanjin Museum

Kitaoji Rosanjin was an artist who was active from the Meiji period to the early Showa period. Just as a famous saying claims that "tableware is the kimono of food," it has more than 2,000 pieces of tableware and so on in its collection that reflect his lifestyle of continually being obsessed with food and beauty, 600 of which are on display at any given time.

Shakushi-no-ie

A shop specializing in rice scoops (shakushi) in Miyajima. Miyajima's rice scoops are popular as a lucky charm that brings happiness, stemming from a pun due to the similar pronunciation of the phrases "bringing in happiness" and "getting rice." In addition to the popular service where a dedicated calligrapher engraves your name on a rice scoop-shaped strap, it also has a wide selection of regular-sized rice scoops and cutlery.

Miyajima Sushi Maimon

Kanazawa Maimon Sushi, which operates nationwide mainly in Ishikawa and Kanazawa, has expanded to the Chugoku region for the first time. You can enjoy dishes that combine the essence of Japanese and Western cuisine, made with delicious ingredients from Kanazawa and Hokuriku as well as seasonal ingredients from Hiroshima and Setouchi. A sommelier is also stationed at the restaurant.

Takatsudo

The store where the Momiji Manju originated. Even today, it still cooks each cake with great care, one by one, in exactly the same shape as back then. Freshly cooked Momiji Manju have a delicious taste that is something exceptional. Enjoy the soft moistness of the cake that can only be achieved by hand, filled with a special red bean paste.

A distillery run by Sakurao B&D, which has been producing alcohol beverages in Hiroshima for over 100 years since its establishment. You can experience a tour of the manufacturing of whiskey and gin, which are produced with great attention to detail, including the ingredients sourced from Hiroshima Prefecture and custom-made distillers, and enjoy tasting them as well.
